Choose the right flag for your location
1. Start with your pole and space
Check the pole manufacturer's approved flag size and wind limits. Tell us the pole height, mounting style and number of flags you fly. A 3 × 5-foot flag is a common starting point for a home display, but your pole and its hardware must support it. Do not choose a larger flag by appearance alone.
2. Match the material to the job
- U.S. Nylon I: an outdoor option designed to fly in light breezes. Compare available sizes.
- U.S. PolyExtra: two-ply polyester designed for demanding outdoor conditions. Confirm your pole can carry the chosen flag. See PolyExtra options.
- Indoor and parade displays: check the pole-hem size, tab attachment, pole and stand. Outdoor clips and indoor pole hems are different fittings.
3. Check the attachment before ordering
Match grommets, D-rings or a pole hem to your display. Send us a close-up photo of the existing attachment if you are unsure. We can review the flag and compatible hardware together.

October 2026 Flag Spotlight: The United States Flag
Our first monthly spotlight starts with the U.S. flag. Its 13 stripes recall the original colonies, while its 50 stars represent today's states. The current design became official on July 4, 1960.
For your display: confirm your pole's approved flag size, the attachment type and the space available. A larger flag adds load; appearance alone should not decide the size.
Product to consider: our U.S. Nylon I outdoor flag has sewn stripes and is designed to fly in light breezes. Sizes through 6 × 10 feet use embroidered stars and brass grommets; sizes 8 × 12 feet and larger use appliquéd stars and chrome D-rings.

Check your display before rough weather arrives
A few minutes of planning can help protect your flag and avoid an urgent replacement. Start from a safe position on the ground.
- Look for fraying along the flag's outer edge, loose seams and worn attachment points.
- Check that the fabric cannot catch on nearby branches, walls or rough surfaces.
- Follow your pole manufacturer's wind and flag-size limits. Lower the flag before severe weather when conditions are safe; do not approach a damaged pole or attempt work during a storm.
- Keep a compatible spare ready and record the date you installed each flag. That gives your facility a useful record of wear at its own location.
After the weather clears, check again from ground level. Report visible damage or unusual leaning to a qualified professional. See The Flag Lady Corp. care guide, or ask us about a replacement.
